Positive Behaviour
At KTCS we are trying to create a school culture that celebrates the positive achievements of the majority of our students. We use a merit/demerit system of rewarding good behaviour and ensuring consequences for negative behaviour. These merits and demerits are recorded on Vs-ware at the end of each class.
At the end of each half-term the management team review the number of merits each student gets and those that meet the agreed threshold of merits, recorded on the system, get to attend a reward day. These can include: pizza parties, bingo, games, movie evenings etc. Usually anyone who has received a demerit for behaviour within that half term does not get to attend the event.
Inside each classroom door students will find the following posters that outline the types of behaviours we expect from students and the types of rewards we deem acceptable for a teacher to give. The list is not exhaustive and teachers can use their own judgement when rewarding students.
Many of the reward events are also based on 90% attendance and above. Hence, it is important that all students attend regularly and return when possible from appointments during the school day. From time to time there may be inaccuracies in the roll, if this occurs and a student feels they are missing out on attending the event due to such inaccuracies they can go to their year head or to one of the Deputy Principals and it will be checked for them.
