Fáilte Ireland addressed senior cycle students on the myriad of opportunities in the Tourism and hospitality sector in Ireland. Athlone IT Hospitality Department gave students insights into the range of courses available at the college and the huge range of careers shortages in Hotel management, Event management, Catering, Tour Guides, Transportation, Tourism, Entertainment and Leisure, Financial services, Food and Beverage, Visitor centres etc. The representatives set up a roadshow in the canteen at break time and students, attracted by free pens and goodies, learnt a lot about the industry.

The Pontifical University, St Patrick's College in Maynooth addressed 5th & 6th year students on the range of courses in Theology and Arts available at the college. Student were given advice on HEAR & DARE applications.

Sixth year students applying through HEAR & DARE were reminded at the assembly today about deadlines. Online forms must be completed and submitted by March 1st. All supporting documentation must arrive in CAO by March 15th. Students are advised to register letters or get a certificate of postage. Students will hear about the results of their application at the end of June.

Carlow Access applications must arrive at IT Carlow by March 2nd 2020.

Students have been admiring the pictures of past pupils from the class of 2019 on the walls of the upstairs corridors. A big thank you to the Parents Council for sourcing the frames which look so well and which add so much to our school spirit.

Seven 5th year students took part in the Maynooth University Shadow day in MU on 11-02-2020. Students learnt about the courses, supports and facilities at the university. They had a campus tour, had lunch in the Phoenix restaurant and attended lectures in Music, English and Psychology. Students got the bus back to Kildare and certainly experienced the life of a real 3rd level students for the day.

Fifth year students have had two workshops as part of the Schools and Business Programme with Kildare Village. The Human Resources Director took students through the process of compiling a stellar CV and make the most of themselves and their talents. Students learnt about interview techniques and how to present themselves for interview. They will get a chance to put their new found knowledge and skills into practice in the mock interviews in Kildare Village next month.

TY students Riona O'Connor and Aimee Murphy represented the school at the Google Internet Safety day on 11-02-2020 at Google Headquarters in Dublin. The girls received training as Internet safety ambassadors.

They delivered a programme to 1st year students emphasising the importance of staying safe and kind when online. Ríona spoke to Ciara Plunkett on KFM radio about the training and the events in the school to mark internet safety.

Transition Year students are being given the opportunity to do the online Euro-Guidance course to learn about 3rd level courses in the EU.

Senior Cycle students have been given the opportunity to take part in Aware's Life Skills for school programme. This programme will be delivered over 4 weeks in the school. Students will learn about feelings, thought processes and how to develop inner confidence.

It was a pleasure to meet Parents of incoming 1st years in the school today. Parents will receive letters in the coming weeks about their assessment test which will take place in the school IT rooms on April 28th, 29th and 30th. Students will need a set of headphones and the completed parental consent forms which they will receive with the letter. We look forward to welcoming our new first years to the school.

3rd year students who applied for TY have been presenting for interview in the school. Students will hear whether or not they have been accepted onto the programme in the coming weeks.

Personal Counselling is available for all students of the school. Students can make an appointment with the Guidance counsellor by filling in an appointment slip (available in the lobby) and placing it in the post box or under the office door.
